THE IMPORTANCE OF FOSTER FAMILIES

As a foster for one of our animals, you will provide temporary care for an animal in need until we can find a suitable permanent home. Becoming a foster is easy and there is absolutely no cost or long-term obligation. Foster homes are vital to our success. Fosters are a vital part of saving the life of an animal. We could not do what we do without our valuable fosters. By placing our animals in homes when they arrive, we are able to get our rescues accustomed to family life while we search for the purr-fect forever home.

THE FOSTER PROCESS

  1. The process begins by filling out and completing the online foster application and sending it into us.

  2. Once received, WBARC will review your application. Please remember that we are a volunteer based organization and may not get back to you right away. We strive to respond to all applications within one week of receipt.

  3. Once your application is approved, a board member will contact you to arrange a meet and greet and home visit. We conduct a home visit to ensure you have everything the animal needs. During this time, we also get to chat a bit to ensure that it is a good professional fit. Modifications to this process may be implemented during COVID-19 restrictions.

  4. If both parties feel that it was a good match, WBARC will request proof that all current animals in the foster home are up to date on their vaccines.

  5. After we receive that document, you become a foster for WBARC, will be added to the WBARC Foster Facebook group and will be able to begin fostering new furry friends into your home.

COSTS

WBARC provides everything. This includes food, treats, and supplies such as a pet kennel, collar, leash, toys, blankets, litter and so forth. If the animal requires veterinary visits, the expense is directly billed to WBARC, and WBARC can call upon additional volunteers to assist with transporting the animal to and from vet visits. We also provide around the clock support via chat/email and a sense of community among other foster families. Your role as a foster is to provide an environment for a happy, healthy pet. This includes regular feedings, exercise, warm shelter, love and attention.

BENEFITS

As a WBARC foster, you providing that vital time for an animal to establish trust and bond with people. For some of our animals, this bonding has not occurred before. How rewarding for a foster family to witness the growth of trust in these fostered pets.

As a foster, if you find that the pet chosen for you doesn’t suit your family, that’s not a problem. You can return the pet to us at any time and for any reason. We only ask that you give us as much notice as possible so we can arrange for an alternative home.
